INTANDEM SETS OUT IMPRESSIVE STALL FOR BERLIN AND BEYOND [ 08/02/2006 ]New horror strand to catch wave of international audience demand for scare fare. LONDON. Intandem Films, the international feature film group and one of the only AIM listed film companies in the UK has come out fighting this month by securing international sales rights on five new films with a further ten currently in the pipeline. The six months to 31 December 2005 has been a period of positive development for Intandem Films, and will please shareholders looking to see the company expand its portfolio over the next 12 months. With box office successes for recent titles such as Hostel, The Descent and Saw II, the market is consistently keen to pick up horror titles. With this in mind, Intandem Films is launching its horror strand FearFactory in partnership with Spice Factory, Colin Pons (Studio of The North) and Mark Thomas (Ballpark Productions). The EIS investment scheme will attract funding for the production and DVD distribution of low budget UK qualifying films and will be launched on 27 February. The first film, which is set to benefit from the raise, will be UK comedy/horror film Zoo, produced by Dan Films’ Julie Baines (Creep). Intandem Films will handle all international sales on FearFactory projects and will also sell and market other high-quality, non-UK qualifying genre films under the same distribution label such as the Michel Shane and Anthony Romano (I Robot, Catch Me If You Can) produced The Lodge, set in Louisiana and directed by Michael Lee Baron (Canopy of the Gods). This March marks the one year anniversary of Intandem Films’ Super Slate deal with Channel 4, the UK Film Council’s Development Fund, Stephen Woolley’s Number 9 Films and the Irish Film Board. Five films are currently in development. Intandem Films has one film in post-production, one in production and several in pre-production. Civic Duty, a high-tempo psychological thriller directed by Jeff Renfroe (One Point O) starring Peter Krause (Six Feet Under), Khaled Abol Naga and Richard Schiff (The West Wing, I am Sam, Ray, Deep Impact). The Black Pimpernel is currently in production. The film is a true-life drama based on the life of the Swedish Ambassador Harald Edelstam and his fight to help refugees in Chile at the time of the military coup in 1973. Intandem Films also has Kiss Chase a sexy psychological thriller directed by Richard Wellings-Thomas starring Roy Marsden and Kelly Harrison set to go into production later this month. Intandem Films’ other films being introduced at the Berlin market which are set to go into production next month include a powerful South of France set psychological drama The Villa Golitsyn, directed by Peter Medak (Romeo is Bleeding, The Krays), from the well-acclaimed book by Piers Paul Read (Alive!). The film tells a story of treason, betrayal and obsessive love. Sospiro di Vita (Breath of Life), a powerful drama based on true events late in World War II will be directed by Giacomo Campiotti, and will star Giancarlo Giannini, Chazz Palminteri and Federico Castelluccio. The film portrays a small village, armed only with love and courage enduring a world at war. Stoned, the film about the final months of the life of Rolling Stones founder Brian Jones was released in the UK earlier this year, will be released in the US at the end of March and is expected to do good business with Stones and rock music fans through Sony Home Entertainment’s April DVD release in the UK. Internationally, sales and distribution deals have been agreed in North America, Germany, Scandinavia, Spain, Benelux, Japan, Brazil and Australia.
